What does it take to be great? To be one of the greatest athletes of all time, it takes more than raw talent.
It is fair to say that when you make it to the highest level everyone (for the most part) has raw talent.... A lot of people claim that what separates the greatest players to ever play from the rest is a growth mindset....Their ability to adapt during every play, of every game, at every level; with every coach, every teammate, and every opponent. They control what they can control, they learn from their mistakes, and they move on...
To get a look inside the minds of some of the greatest athletes of all time, we have asked them two simple questions: What is one piece of advice you would give yourself 8 years ago? and If you could ask your future self one questions, what would it be?
With our first Wisdom Wednesday post ON THE LINE we have asked:
3X Tewaaraton winner (an honor given to the best player in college lacrosse), 2X National Champion, 2X gold medalist (FIL World Cup and World Games), Team USA superstar, and WPLL Standout Taylor Cummings, to give kick us off.
1. What is one piece of advice you would give yourself 8 years ago?
"8 years ago, I was 16 years old and a junior in the middle of my recruiting process. I was so focused on thinking about my future, that I wasn’t really present for a lot of that year. Looking back, I feel like I didn’t really enjoy that year... just kind of went through the motions. I would tell myself to embrace each moment, stay present in everything you’re doing, and to be grateful for the people and things in your life at that second- not to wonder constantly about what’s to come."
2. If you could ask your future self one questions, what would it be?
"Have you accomplished any of the goals you set 8 years ago? Did you enjoy yourself while struggling through the grind or did you not embrace the moment?"
